"Bubbling up in our own good time-- online."

Spring 2006
In the Winter 2006 Issue of Groundwaters, Volume 2 Number 2, I was
thrilled to find "Puffin Island Journal" by Catherine Chandler. Her journal
brought back many memories of the time we spent in various parts of
Alaska. I can recall my children still playing Frisbees with their cousins at 2
a.m. in the slight duskiness that comes between night and day in the
summer. People in Alaska tend to burn the candle at both ends during the
summer in preparation for the long dark winter. I really related to her style
of writing and found it easy to imagine myself in the environment, even
though I had never been in that particular part of the world before. I will
eagerly look forward to more of her writings.
I love your magazine and am getting a collection now, as I save every
issue for rereading. I can't wait for Groundwaters to arrive, so I can scope
out the submissions and the contributors, as well. I hope you keep
including the short personal biographies submitted by the contributors. I
feel as if I am getting to know some of them, as well as their work. Many
have led varied and interesting lives and their contributions reflect it. I am
thankful for Groundwaters and your efforts in providing a sounding board
for our many voices and to those who provide the funding to keep it going.
Keep up the good work!

While at The Broadway Events Center, I was overjoyed to see Jennifer
“Jen” Chambers seated at a table, busily signing copies of her book,
which is hot off the press. Her novel, Learning Life Again, is the story of a
young woman’s recovery from a traumatic brain injury as a teenager.
Jennifer is an editor for Groundwaters and is a member of Willamette
Writers, as well as the Brain Injury Association of America. This is her first
novel. She has been an inspiration to many of our local writers as she
gave freely of her time and expertise to encourage others. Our
congratulations to Jen on having a dream of hers fulfilled.
