Cousin Clyde would ride
round the countryside
in a wooden boat, that couldn’t float,
because there was no water.

Now Cousin Clyde was only five
but it really didn’t matter.
He’d wave his arms and smile at me,
‘cause I was the Captain’s Daughter.

So off to sea he’d sail with me
to places far away.
To places we could only see
in our boat that had no water.

Oh, it was grand, in a far away land
and things were very different.
People came to see who we could be,
Cousin Clyde and the Captain’s Daughter.

We’d wave to them, they’d wave to us.
We’d wonder why they’d make a fuss,
when we sailed in to visit them
in our boat that had no water.

We’d sail aground to look around
at these far and different places.
Clyde said, “Look see, it’s only me
and this is the Captain’s Daughter.”

Cousin Clyde was five and I was three,
but we were brave as we could be
sailing over here and over there
in our wooden boat that couldn’t float
because there was no water.
