All of this came about when I
Read that a reputed Arab spy
Had tried to settle his clan near BLY.

That led me to give the map a long look.
Finding MERLIN, MILTON, MILO and COOK
Made me wonder, if under each arm snugged a book.

When first settlers took names from this and that thing,
A GRIZZLY NEW ERA may have been on the WING.

Did OWAHEE emerge from a stab at Hawaii?
Please explain to me what prompted IZEE.

I’ll wager in niftily named WAGONTIRE,
Not many houses are finding a buyer.

You could ZIGZAG and hire a VAN or a flivver,
To store up FREEWATER from PISTOL RIVER.

If FOLLYFARM folks would take me in
(and keep me there till I got thin)

I might never need a fat farm again.
I’d slenderly GLIDE around DAIRY or DRAIN

Or even that really oddly named BORING.
Everyone there’s sound asleep and snoring.

Did they pick some names out of the MIST?
Wait!, SUNTEX and SIXES belong on the list.

Conveniently, PARADISE is very near TROY...
With great PROMISE and an ECHO of WONDER and joy.

Oh BROTHERS, Oh SISTERS, I’m reaching my end...
Any more of this stuff I’ll have gone round the BEND.

Each BROGAN is weary; I feel like a FOSSIL;
My TALENT is spent; I’m no longer docile.

With Oregon’s oddly named REMOTE little towns
I’m through! I’ve had it! I’ve trudge my rounds.

Remote Little Towns
